The Coppice Stove

The Coppice Stove

The Coppice Stoves are decorated with clay tiles, (designed exclusively for Black Mountain Woodfuels by Mark Stephens), which help to slow the loss of warmth/heat from the main burn area.

Tiling woodstoves in clay has been traditional in European countries for more than 300 years, and we thought that it a good idea to adopt this wisdom.

For a stove design to be successful it must achieve certain objectives: it must work (technical objectives) and it must be widely acceptable to, and eventually used by, the target group (social objectives). The main technical objectives to stove design are to:

· maximise the efficiency of the fuel combustion process, and
· transfer heat from the source to the room as efficiently as possible.

The social objectives of the stove should:

· be acceptable to the vast majority of potential users
· offer recognisable benefits to those users
· be cost-effective for the user.

The Coppice Stove has been developed using these standard guiding principles, but, moreover, it has been designed to run very efficiently on a unique type of fuel, which will prevent the loss of more than 75% of the energy that you would use/waste getting any other woodstove in the UK to a position whereby it is providing you with warmth. Unlike every other woodstove on sale in Europe today, The Coppice Stove has been designed around the fact that wood can be better prepared for burning.

It is the only stove in the world designed to burn PAR-CHAR, the most efficient woodfuel on the UK market.

It has been designed primarily with the demanding needs of the western user in mind – clean, cost effective, efficient, low-impact and simple to use.

It is the first woodstove on the UK market to adopt a vertical load system that demands less-frequent manual fuel delivery.

It is the most efficient way to provide heat from wood. Not only does it burn wood up to 75% more efficiently than other woodstoves, but it also takes wood from a source that benefits biodiversity more than any other form of woodland or forest management. The system, as with any other that involves burning, will release carbon dioxide, however the cumulative effort of the technology built into The Coppice Stove and the system of woodland management that it encourages will, ultimately, result in a net reduction of CO2 production.

Its' design incorporates the best of the European masonry stoves with the best of the new-age steel stoves being developed in the USA.

The only stove in the world to be supported by a carbon reduction project that seeks to develop at least 100 jobs in UK woodlands.

If you have recently bought a new woodstove, statistics indicate that you are likely to have become another disappointed first-time-buyer of firewood. You may be (come) a victim of the massive ‘firewood-dumpy-bag’ monster or be faced with a pile of wet logs that has been tipped off the back of a trailer on to your drive, which you are going to have to move into a wood store (sold to you by your stove or firewood supplier?). Could be a tonne of wood there? Ever moved a tonne of wood before? Ever carried 200kg of water before?

The Coppice Stove is only available in parts of the UK where we can guarantee a sustainable supply of PAR-CHAR. It is crucial to the success of this intiative that owners of The Coppice Stove are able to obtain fuel from local woodlands. We would encourage you to contact us to discuss fuel supply before you make the final decision to buy the stove.
